Airport and airline developments
Among the major announcements, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the expansion of the runway and construction of a new terminal building at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi.
This project, estimated at around ₹2,870 crore, aims to enhance the airport’s capacity and infrastructure.
Modi will initiate new civil enclaves at three airports: Agra (₹570 crore), Darbhanga (₹910 crore), and Bagdogra (₹1,550 crore), as part of efforts to expand airport facilities across India.
The combined investment in these projects is expected to significantly increase the passenger-handling capacity of these airports to over 23 million annually.
Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate newly constructed terminal buildings at Rewa, Ambikapur, and Saharanpur airports. These projects, costing more than ₹220 crore, feature designs inspired by the architectural heritage of their respective regions.
New projects in Varanasi
Apart from airport announcements, in Varanasi on October 20, the Prime Minister will inaugurate phases 2 and 3 of the redevelopment of the Varanasi Sports Complex, a project valued at over ₹210 crore under the Khelo India scheme and the Smart City mission.
The upgraded sports facility will include a National Centre of Excellence, players’ hostels, sports science centres, and specialised fields for various sports, along with indoor arenas for shooting and combat sports.
Other major projects include the inauguration of a 100-bed hostel for boys and girls and a public pavilion at the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium in Lalpur.
Modi will also launch tourism development projects aimed at improving infrastructure in Sarnath, a prominent Buddhist pilgrimage site. These projects involve creating pedestrian-friendly streets, upgrading sewer and drainage systems, and establishing vending zones for local handicraft sellers.
The Prime Minister will also dedicate beautification initiatives at the Banasur Temple and Gurudham Temple, alongside the redevelopment of local parks, further boosting Varanasi’s tourism appeal.
