Cabinet approves two major railway projects in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved two critical railway projects with an estimated total cost of ₹6,798 crore.

These projects are aimed at strengthening railway connectivity across Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, spanning a combined total of 313 km.

Earlier today, CNBC Awaaz had exclusively reported on the government’s plans to approve these two projects. The first project involves the doubling of the Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga and Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur sections, covering 256 km in Bihar. T

his will enhance connectivity to Nepal, North-East India, and border areas, promoting socio-economic growth by facilitating smoother movement of both passenger and goods trains.

The second project focuses on the construction of a new railway line between Errupalem and Namburu via Amaravati, covering 57 km. This line will pass through NTR Vijayawada, Guntur (Andhra Pradesh), and Khammam (Telangana), providing much-needed connectivity to 168 villages and serving a population of 12 lakh people with 9 new stations.

This project is significant as it offers direct access to Amaravati, the proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh, boosting industrial mobility and overall economic growth.

Both projects are critical for the transportation of key commodities, including agriculture products, coal, iron ore, steel, and cement. The capacity augmentation will result in an additional 31 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum) in freight traffic, helping reduce logistical costs and carbon emissions, and contributing to India’s climate goals.

The projects are in line with the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, aimed at improving multi-modal connectivity. These developments are expected to provide job opportunities, stimulate regional development, and further the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat by improving self-reliance in the regions.
